We are part of a group of local solicitors who have created an advertising campaign to highlight the risks to client of accepting advice and legal services from cold callers or unregulated Will Writing companies.
We have seen local courses for Will Writers being offered - 3 days of tuition and then all participants will have the skills and knowledge to take instructions and prepare Wills for clients. These companies offer no protection for clients as they are not regulated, nor backed by indemnity isurance. Advice is not provided by legally qualified professionals and people are being duped into allowing these people to advise them on how to manage their assets. In addition, the fees for these services are normally a lot higher than if a properly qualified solicitor advises you and does the work for you.
The messages that we are trying to get across are that:
1. Solicitors are backed by indemnity insurance, so in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, you are protected.
2. Solicitors are regulated by the SRA, so in the unlikely event that the solicitor firm ceases to trade, your documents are safely stored.
3. Solicitors do not charge more than these unregulated companies.
4. Will writing companies are more likely to cease trading and documents held may become untraceable. All local solicitors have had clients coming to them to try to unravel problems caused by these companies.
Please help us spread the message. We are happy to give anyone who has been approached by these companies a free 30 minute consultation to discuss their position before they sign up to anything with the unregulated sector.
Will Aid 2016 was a very successful campaign and here at Barrass White Legal, we raised £1,660. The current total raised by all solicitors involved in the campaign stands at over £1 million pounds. Thank you to all of our client, new and old, who helped us to reach such a fantastic total
We have recently commissioned an advert to run on Estuary TV, which we are quite proud of!
Early in November, we were asked to speak to Estuary TV about the importance of doing a Will, especially highlighting the need for parents of children under the age of 18 to appoint a guardian for their children. The link is below for the whole programme (we start at 31.20) or click the button below just for our interview.
The clients have been seen, the Wills have been drafted, approved and signed and the grand total that we have raised for Will Aid this year is an amazing £1,660.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this our most successful Will Aid campaign to date.
We have had an amazing response to the Will Aid campaign this year and are now fully booked for Will Aid appointments in November. We are hoping to raise a lot of money for the charities involved.
We are feeling rather charitable at the moment and are going to donate 10% of the fees that we generate on Wills in October to local charities. Book now to make an appointment!
Whilst we do not like the term 'Brexit', the country has voted to leave the EU in the Referendum on 23rd June 2016. Whilst we cannot say with any certainty, what this means for future interest rates, house prices, future immigration etc, we can advise all EEA Nationals and their Family Members as to their current status and options as we would urge all elible EEA Nationals to apply for Permanent Residency. We offer an EEA Immigration Checking Service for just £96 inclusive of VAT. At this appointment, we can assess your current status, advise on the various types of application available to you (including applying for permanent residency and citizenship). If you are unable to apply straight away, we can advise as to the date when you can apply and what steps you can begin to take to ensure that your appication would be successful. Please call for an appointment.
UPDATE - we all survived the sleepwalk (despite the rain and thunder) and helped to raise a lot of money for St Andrew's Hospice. Thank you for all your sponsorship.
We have signed up for the Sleepwalk in aid of St Andrew's Hospice on 3rd July, starting at midnight. It's an 11 mile challenge and we would like to raise as much money as we possible can for such a great charity.

Thank you :)
We have now been trading for one year. It has been a very busy, happy and successful first year. Over the year, we've moved to a larger office, obtained CQS accreditation, and expanded our team from 2 to 6. We are very proud of how things are going, so to celebrate our birthday, we made a donation to St Andrew's Hospice and hope to make some other charitable donations shortly.
